Special Thanks

The realization of Curating the City: Wilshire Boulevard involved the entire staff, board of directors, and volunteers of the Los Angeles Conservancy, along with many others who contributed immeasurably to this project.

Thanks are due to Cathy Gudis, the Conservancy's director of education, for directing the overall project and for stamping an imprint of scholarship and learning on its many components. Comparable recognition must go to Cindy Olnick, the Conservancy's communications manager, who brought clarity and elegance to the project, especially to this website and the project's diverse publications.

For providing valuable content and expertise, we are very grateful to J. Eric Lynxwiler and Kevin Roderick, researcher and author, respectively, of Wilshire Boulevard: Grand Concourse of Los Angeles (Santa Monica: Angel City Press, 2005).

For her early work on Curating the City: Wilshire Boulevard and its conceptualization, particular thanks are due to Jane McNamara. J. Eric Lynxwiler also played a key role in the conception and realization of the project. For providing sage advice and research leads, we thank William Deverell, Thomas S. Hines, Richard Longstreth, Merry Ovnick, Doug Suisman, and Robert W. Winter. We also thank Sally Beddow, Sophia Carter, Julia McConnell, and Junette Teng for providing countless hours of research assistance.

We are extremely grateful to Hello Design for their vision, skill, creativity, and patience in creating this website. We truly appreciate the efforts of Szu Ann Chen, David Lai, Hiro Niwa, Casey Sheehan, Anna Simonse, Hugo Zhu, and Jason Taylor.

Amy Inouye, the principal of Future Studio, is a longtime supporter of the Conservancy and designs many of its outreach materials, including the print pieces and online teachers' materials for Curating the City: Wilshire Boulevard. We thank her for her tremendous work, as well as Stuart Rapeport and Jin H. Ji for their considerable time and talent. We also appreciate the translation work of Al Jimenez, Aelan Kim, and Liliana Vasquez. And we thank Jano Graphics for their exceptional printing services.

Education consultant Erin Sullivan wrote the original text for the Kids' Guide and authored the lesson plans for Curating the City: Wilshire Boulevard, providing fun and enlightening activities for youth and their families and teachers. Diane Siegel, Siegel Educational Services, offered wise advice in the preparation of these materials and has orchestrated the course for teachers of grades 2 to 12 that is part of the project. We are grateful to them and to Jacki Breger, Founder and Executive Director of CityLife Downtown Charter School, for her help and advice.

Conveying the rich history and architectural heritage of Wilshire Boulevard would be impossible without the hundreds of images shared by the photographers, archivists, and other sources listed above. For providing particularly large numbers of images for this project, we thank Anne Laskey; Carolyn Kozo Cole, Matthew Mattson, and Bettie Webb of the Los Angeles Public Library Photo Collection; Jacques Garnier; Jim McHugh; Tim Street-Porter; Larry Underhill; Marc Wanamaker of Bison Archives; and Tom Zimmerman of Tom Zimmerman Photography.

Last but certainly not least, for helping to create and preserve the cultural riches of Los Angeles, we thank the architects, owners, and stewards of the historic properties that make up magnificent Wilshire Boulevard.
